Here's the history lesson .........

in brief.........

The name "The Old Bear" is thought to derive from the villages connections with the Beauchamp family, Lords of the manor in the 16th Century, who displayed a bear on their coat of arms.

The Old Bear was a fully established public house by the middle of the 19th Century and was very much a focal point of the community right through the early half of the 20th Century.

The pub was run by the Bird family in the 1970s and 1980s who carried out extensive modifications to the building. In the late 1980s they added the front bay windows and porch, and converted the old skittle alley into Samuel's Restaurant.
